ECI Hosts International Symposium on Future Cities
The first international symposium on Future Cities (Interpret) was held Saturday night on June 20, 2018, with the presence of ambassadors and diplomats at ECO Cultural Institute.

In his speech at the ceremony, Dr. Mohammad Mahdi Mazaheri, ECI president, welcomed the guests of the international symposium, saying: "The holy month of Ramadan is a very blessed month for ECO Cultural Institute."

He continued: "At the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, we hosted the formation of ECO Faction in Iran's Islamic Consultative Assembly, and today, in the last few days of Ramadan, the opportunity is provided to hold an international symposium on Future Cities (Interpret) at ECO Cultural Institute.

President of ECO Cultural Institute, addressing the establishment of cooperation with international unions such as the European Union (EU) and ASEAN, said: "The charter of ECO Cultural Institute has provided a unique capacity to promote cultural commonalities as a prerequisite for any other activities."

In conclusion, he focused on cities as the centerpiece of sustainable development, saying: "ECO Cultural Institute is ready to cooperate with the International City Leaders Foundation."

Dr. Bahramzadeh, Secretary General of Interpret and research associate of Institute of Iranian Studies, also thanked ECO Cultural Institute for hosting the event and said: "Sustainable development is one of the requirements of innovative economy and urban development is the mainstay of achieving sustainable development."

Dr. Ali Akbar Haj Mohammadi, head of monitoring and evaluation affairs of Iran's Planning and Budget Organization, also in his speech welcomed the cooperation of ECO Cultural Institute in actualizing the objectives of Future Cities project, saying: "civilizational grounds such as ECO region appeared before the formation of political borders and cultural interactions are firmly rooted regardless of the current geographical boundaries."

Mr. Mohammad Taghi Saberi, Deputy Minister of Finance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also expressed thanks on the initiative made by ECI to hold the event and said: "I hope that such programs would create an opportunity for the formation of regional diplomacy in this part of the Middle East which is critical at this juncture."

It is worth mentioning that the ambassadors from the countries of Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Tunisia and Palestine attended the international event.

At the end of the event, the Municipality of Zanjan was honored a certificate by ECI president and Secretary General of Interpret as pioneering city for sustainable urban development.
