'Tirgan, Celebration of Water' is the title of a book written by Dilshod Rahimi, a Tajik scholar, which has been published by Arjang Publications in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
According to ECI public relations quoting Khovar news agency of Tajikistan, the book deals with the significance of water for life on earth, the initiatives of the Republic of Tajikistan to promote the importance of water on international level as well as the customs and traditions of Tajik people pertaining to water.
In his book, Dilshod Rahimi, anthropologist and author of the book, has talked about the mystical and symbolical aspects of water and the history of Tirgan festival. He has also included some poems on this festive event.
It is worth mentioning that Tirgan is among the ancient festivals of Persian-speaking peoples and is celebrated annually on July 3 as a sign of respect to water and the key to prosperity and abundance. At the proposal of Emomali Rahmon, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, at the 71st UN General Assembly held on December 23, 2016, the 2018-2028 period has been declared as the 'International Decade for Action on Water for Sustainable Development'.
