Iran- Azerbaijan to Expand Relations
Karim Shakurov, during a meeting with Iranian cultural Attaché in Baku, stressed the need for interaction between Iranian and Azerbaijani scholars on history and said: “Development of comprehensive and sustainable relations with Iran is one of the most important priorities of the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
According to the ECO Cultural Institute, quoting Public Relations of Islamic Culture and Communication Organization, Iran’s Cultural Attaché to the Republic of Azerbaijan Ghorbanali Pourmarjan, met with Karim Shakurov, President of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, at this organization.
Shakurov described the activities of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and said: “The institute was established in 1935 with an aim to conduct scientific research on the history of Azerbaijan”.
He stated: “This institute started operating in 1945 within the Academy of Sciences and in 1951 became the Institute of History and Philosophy. In 1956, the Institute of Philosophy was established independently and operated separately from the Institute of History. In 1974, the Department of Archeology and Anthropology was established. Today, there are about 12 branches or research centers active within this institute. The main subjects studied in these centers are the ancient history of Azerbaijan, the medieval history of Azerbaijan, resource studies and historiography.”
