May 15 coincides with the annual commemoration of the renowned Persian poet Abolghasem Ferdowsi in Iran. Numerous seminars and festivals were organized nationwide to mark the day, Fars News Agency reported. "Shahnameh Millennium" was a Conference organized by ECO Cultural Institute in coordination with Iran’s Ferdowsi Foundation at the 22nd Tehran International Book Fair. Representatives from the ECO Member States, including Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan attended the Conference.
A number of local as well as regional speakers including Dr. Jalaleddin Kazzazi, a university professor and a renowned scholar (Iran), Mr. Muhammad Jamil Owaisi, ECI’s Executive Director and a scholar on Islamic mysticism (Pakistan), Mr. Abdolkarim Tamanna, a prominent regional poet (Afghanistan), Latif Nazim, the former Afghan Minister of Culture and currently a professor at Hamburg University in Germany were among the speakers who lectured on Ferdowsi and his masterpiece of Shahnameh (the Book of Kings).
ECI President, Mohammad Rajabi, while announcing Institute’s future plan for extensive programs about Shahnameh Millennium to be held in ECO Member States, delivered a lively and well received speech on Shahnameh as a literary masterpiece.
