Iran’s National Handicrafts and Carpet Day

Iran’s National Handicrafts and Carpet Day
The ECO Cultural Institute extends its warm congratulations on 10 June 2026, observed as Iran’s National Handicrafts and Carpet Day, to artists, artisans, carpet weavers, researchers, and all those engaged in these fields.
Message from the ECO Cultural Institute on the Occasion of Iran’s National Handicrafts and Carpet Day
Handicrafts and carpets are more than expressions of human creativity and craftsmanship; they are living embodiments of the culture, history, and identity of nations. The Persian carpet, with its patterns and colors inspired by nature, beliefs, and folk traditions, stands among the most recognized cultural symbols of the ECO region and represents a valuable legacy in the history of world art.
Across the cultural landscape of the ECO region, traditional arts and handicrafts have long served as a bridge for intercultural dialogue, the transmission of indigenous knowledge, and the strengthening of ties among peoples. The ECO member countries—Afghanistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan—each possess rich and distinctive traditions in handicrafts, weaving, traditional textiles, and folk arts. Together, these traditions reflect both the diversity and the shared cultural heritage of the region.
The ECO Cultural Institute believes that safeguarding handicrafts and the art of carpet weaving is not merely about preserving the achievements of the past; it is also about supporting creativity, cultural identity, sustainable development, and the cultural economy of contemporary societies. This valuable heritage can continue to inspire cultural and human connections among the peoples of the region.
On this occasion, the ECO Cultural Institute reaffirms its appreciation for the artists and practitioners of handicrafts and carpet weaving in Iran and throughout the ECO region and wishes them continued success, prosperity, and creative achievement.
