Half a Century Carved Horn Art in Turkey
A 67-year-old artist in the city of Yalova makes beautiful jewelry using animal horns.
According to the ECO Cultural Institute, quoting Anadolu News Agency, Mehmet Atişan, a 67-year-old Turkish master who lives in the village of Güneyköy in the Province of Yalova has been making beautiful jewelry for 51 years using animal horns.
“Making jewelry from animal horns is a very difficult task, first to decompose the bone components within the horn, we use crystal soda which is supplied from the water of Lake Van. Then we keep the remaining materials in a special solution to rest for 8 months.” the news says.
