The Lut Desert and Shahdad Kaluts; A Natural Museum
The Lut Desert, Iran's first natural site on the UNESCO World Heritage list, is home to phenomena not found with such magnificence anywhere else on Earth.
The "Shahdad Kaluts" (Yardangs) are giant sand formations carved over millions of years by wind and water erosion, creating a landscape resembling an imaginary, abandoned city in the heart of the desert.
This region is known not only for its visual beauty but also as one of the thermal poles of the Earth; a place where NASA has reported the highest surface temperatures ever recorded on the planet (over 70 degrees Celsius) on several occasions. With its towering sand dunes and vast salt flats, the Lut Desert is a symbol of nature's power and survival in the harshest climatic conditions.
