Kuhneh Madraseh in Tajikistan

Kuhneh Madraseh in Tajikistan
Kuhneh Madraseh— an architectural monument dating from the 18th and early 19th centuries, located in Hisor District. It was built of baked bricks to the south of the Hisor Fortress.
Its spacious rectangular courtyard is surrounded by rows of cells (rooms). The rooms are covered with “Balkhi”-style domes, and their entrances are simple and arched. In three corners of the courtyard, five-arched porticoes have been constructed; each of them has a corridor leading to the three main rooms of the monument.
The façade of the building features a central portal (pishtaq) with staircases on both sides, which were used to access the roof. The composition of the madrasa’s façade does not strictly follow traditional architectural principles: the large portal appears disproportionate to the surrounding wall, and the corner towers on both sides lack decorative ornamentation.
The right wing of the building is occupied by a mosque with a front iwan, while the left wing consists of four rooms of varying sizes. This madrasa does not include a dedicated classroom and is not ornamentally decorated.
The Kuhneh Madraseh is protected as a state historical monument.
