The 5th International Conference of Alisher Navoi was held in Uzbekistan at N’avoir region on October 17–18, 2025, hosted by Navoi State University with the support of the International Navoi Foundation.
The event was organized within the framework of the “Year of Alisher Navoi”, declared by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on February 7, 2025, with the aim of promoting this great poet and thinker’s rich literary legacy worldwide. The main theme of the conference was “The Role of Alisher Navoi’s Scholarly and Literary Legacy in the Spiritual Development of Humanity.”
In addition to leading universities of Uzbekistan, the conference brought together scholars, literary critics, linguists,Navoi specialists, and young researchers from Türkiye, Iran, Azerbaijan, the United States, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Among nearly 200 participants, more than 40 were international researchers.
In his opening remarks, Iranian Navoi scholar Prof. Dr. Ebrahim Khodayar emphasized that Alisher Navoi, who wrote in both Turkic and Persian, was a “zullisanayn” (bilingual) intellectual whose works hold great value for both cultures. Dr. Ahmet Akalın, Assistant Director of the ECO Cultural Institute (ECI), described Navoi as a “spiritual treasure” for Uzbekistan’s cultural diplomacy and underlined the importance of establishing Navoi Institutes operating internationally to promote the Uzbek language and culture.
The conference proceedings including articles were published in a three-volume academic collection, and the discussions and presentations drew great interest from students.
On the second day, participants visited the historic Nurata district and the ancient city of Kermene in the Navoi region. The visits showcased Uzbekistan’s rich cultural heritage through traditional handicrafts, music, folklore, theater, fine arts, and the country’s famous hospitality.
