The Third Congress of Linguists of Brotherly and Culturally Related Nations to Be Held in Tajikistan
On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Third Congress of Linguists of Brotherly and Culturally Related Countries will be held in the country, reports Khovar News Agency.
The Third Congress of Linguists will take place from 15 to 18 November 2026 at the initiative of the Committee on Language and Terminology under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. Linguists and researchers from all countries of the world who are engaged in the study and research of the Tajik language are expected to participate.
It should be noted that the Tajik language is considered one of the oldest languages in the world. Using this language, scholars and great figures of science and literature have created works of universal significance and made a valuable contribution to the enrichment of the cultural and civilizational treasury of humankind.
Today, Tajik is the mother tongue of millions of native inhabitants of countries such as Iran, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, India, Pakistan, and others, as Tajiks have lived in these regions since ancient times. In Tajikistan, the state language is the mother tongue of the majority of the population.
The “State Language Development Program for 2020–2030,” adopted by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, ensures the sustainable advancement of this language as a language with official status over the next decade.
Alongside promoting the development and expanding the influence of the state language, the Government of the country implements numerous measures to support the languages and cultures of ethnic minorities residing in Tajikistan. The normative legal acts adopted concerning language guarantee the protection of the state language as well as other languages spoken within the republic.
The Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, consistently emphasizes in his speeches the importance of preserving the purity of the state language and elevating its status in society. In the Republic of Tajikistan, in addition to the state language, all conditions and legal foundations have been provided for the free use of the mother tongues of other nationalities and ethnic groups living in the country.
