In a move to further strengthen cultural and civilizational ties within the region, H.E. Ambassador Muhammad Hassan, President of the ECO Cultural Institute (ECI), met and held discussions with Mr. Gholamreza Amirkhani, President of the National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI), on Monday, February 2, 2026.
According to the ECI Public Relations, the meeting aimed to redefine joint cooperation within the framework of cultural diplomacy. During this session, both parties emphasized the necessity of leveraging the vast capacities of national libraries and archival centers across ECO member states to foster greater convergence among the nations of the region.
The President of the ECO Cultural Institute paid tribute to influential scholarly figures such as Professor Arif Naushahi, describing him as a "cultural bridge" between Iran and Pakistan. He noted: "The expansion of intellectual interactions across the ECO geography not only ensures the preservation of our shared heritage but also elevates the global standing of Persian language and literature." Furthermore, referring to the abundance of rich manuscript resources in Pakistan, he expressed the Institute's readiness to facilitate joint research projects.
The President of the National Library and Archives of Iran expressed readiness to host joint cultural events, such as "Cultural Nights" and academic forums in collaboration with the ECI. He also highlighted the availability of research fellowships and study opportunities at the Iran National Library and Archives Organization for researchers and students from neighboring countries.
Additionally, other strategic pillars such as the "Revitalization of Written Heritage and Manuscripts," the "Establishment of the Conference of National Archives," and the "Continuation of the Meeting of Heads of National Libraries of ECO Member States" were discussed, receiving full support and agreement from both sides.
During the visit, the President of the ECO Cultural Institute toured the specialized departments and treasuries of the National Library of Iran, gaining insight into the organization's activities and services. The meeting concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts as a gesture of friendship and a sign of enduring strategic cooperation.
