A ceremony marking the 1,051st birth anniversary of Khwaja Abdullah Ansari was held on Saturday, 9th May 2026, in Herat. The event was organized by the Directorate of Information and Culture of Herat and attended by cultural officials, representatives of cultural centers from neighboring countries and Turkey, as well as a number of scholars and religious figures.
Speakers at the ceremony described Khwaja Abdullah Ansari as one of the enduring figures of Islamic history and emphasized that his thoughts and works, even after centuries, continue to convey messages of wisdom, ethics, and humanity to today’s generation.
The custodian of Khwaja Abdullah Ansari’s shrine noted that the significance of this great scholar and mystic extends far beyond Herat and Afghanistan, adding that his ideas and writings continue to inspire admirers of knowledge, mysticism, and culture across the Islamic world.
Several researchers and scholars participating in the event highlighted the various dimensions of his personality, describing him not only as a distinguished mystic but also as a prominent scholar of Hadith and an eminent interpreter of Islam whose life and teachings remain a valuable model for younger generations.
Cultural officials of Herat stressed that the city, as a historic center of knowledge, culture, and art, owes much of its prominence to great figures such as Khwaja Abdullah Ansari—personalities who have immortalized Herat’s name in the history of Islamic civilization.
Participants concluded by underlining the importance of holding such commemorative events to strengthen Herat’s historical and cultural identity and to further introduce the region’s distinguished intellectual and cultural heritage
