ECO Cultural Institute President Addresses 36th RPC Meeting
The 36th Meeting of the ECO Regional Planning Council (RPC) officially commenced today, May 17, 2026 (27 Ordibehesht 1405), at the ECO Secretariat with the participation of delegations from ECO Member States and representatives of ECO specialized and affiliated institutions.
During the opening session, participants presented their statements and reports on the implementation of regional programs and cooperation initiatives.
Dr. Mohammad Hassan, President of the ECO Cultural Institute, also attended the meeting and delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of strengthening cultural cooperation among Member States of the Economic Cooperation Organization, promoting cultural diplomacy, and highlighting the role of culture in achieving sustainable regional development. He also underscored the programs and activities of the ECO Cultural Institute and called for enhanced cooperation among ECO cultural, scientific, and educational institutions to advance shared regional objectives.
In the margins of the meeting, a bilateral meeting was held between Dr. Mohammad Hassan and Dr. Asad Majeed Khan, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization. During the meeting, the Secretary General welcomed Dr. Mohammad Hassan and appreciated the role of the ECO Cultural Institute in strengthening cultural cooperation among member states, emphasizing the importance of expanding cultural, educational, and scientific engagement across the region.
Both sides exchanged views on the future programs of the ECO Cultural Institute, including joint cultural, artistic, and educational initiatives, and discussed ways to enhance synergy among ECO-affiliated institutions. They also stressed the need for closer coordination to ensure more effective implementation of regional programs and to further strengthen multilateral cooperation in the coming years.
The 36th RPC Meeting will continue until May 20, 2026, focusing on reviewing the 2026 work programs and calendar of events.
