The 22nd of May (1st of Khordad), the Commemoration Day of Sadr al-Muta'allihin Shirazi, honors a profound thinker who transcended the boundaries of abstract discourse, transforming philosophy into a living reflection on humanity, truth, and the universe.
Amidst a turbulent era and defying widespread opposition, Mulla Sadra laid the foundations of "Transcendent Philosophy" (Al-Hikmah al-Muta'aliyah)—a school of thought that sought to forge a renewed bond between intellect, intuition, and revelation.
In his vision, the universe is not a static or frozen reality; existence is in continuous motion and transformation, and humanity possesses an inherent capacity for perpetual sublimation and change within this path. Mulla Sadra’s theory of "Substantial Motion" (Al-Harakat al-Jawhariyyah) stands out as one of the most brilliant philosophical innovations in the Islamic world, remaining a vibrant subject of dialogue and research in contemporary scientific and philosophical circles.
As Mulla Sadra writes:
"The soul, in its unity, is all its faculties." «النَّفسُ فی وَحدَتِها کُلُّ القُوَى»
This perspective offers a profound portrayal of the human being; an individual who, despite being a single unity, harbors an entire universe of potential, perception, and capability within.
Commemorating this day, the ECO Cultural Institute (ECI) reaffirms the vital importance of safeguarding the shared intellectual and cultural heritage of the region, and views intercultural and philosophical dialogue as a key cornerstone for fostering closer ties and unity among nations.
