The "International Media Literacy Conference" was held at the ECO Cultural Institute
The "International Media Literacy Conference" was held on August 18, 2026, at the ECO Cultural Institute, with the presence of experts and the delegation from the Radio and Television Supreme Council of Türkiye (RTÜK).
In this event, which was welcomed by news agencies and media professionals, regional capacities for addressing the challenges of the information age were examined.
H.E. Amb. Muhammad Hasan, President of the ECO Cultural Institute, in the opening of this event, described media literacy not merely as knowing how to use digital tools, but as a skill for pausing, questioning, and verifying information, and emphasized: "In the era of artificial intelligence and fake news, we must equip the young generation with appropriate intellectual tools so that they are not passive consumers, but independent thinkers." Referring to the cross-border nature of digital threats, he called for this conference to be the beginning of sustainable regional cooperation.
In this meeting, H.E. Ambassador Prof. Dr. Hicabi Kırlangıç, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to the Islamic Republic of Iran, also referring to the media's transition beyond traditional frameworks, stated: "Today's media environment has become very complex, and distinguishing truth from falsehood, especially for children and adolescents, has become a vital challenge that requires an intelligent and collective approach."
Following this, the message of Mr. Mehmet Daniş, President of the Radio and Television Supreme Council of Türkiye (RTÜK), was read by Ms. Fatma Güleç, Deputy of the Strategy Development Department of the Radio and Television Supreme Council of Türkiye (RTÜK). In this message, media literacy was described as a key tool for strengthening the resilience of societies. Also, Mr. Ahmet Yücel, Deputy of the Strategy Development Department of the Radio and Television Supreme Council of Türkiye (RTÜK), explained the supervisory structure of this council in three levels: government supervision, analysis of feedback received from the public, and strengthening the self-supervision of media.
The main speaker of the meeting, Ms. Feyza Gizligider, Head of the Strategy Development Department of the Radio and Television Supreme Council of Türkiye (RTÜK), by analyzing the psychological techniques of media for influencing the audience's mind, emphasized the necessity of teaching analytical skills to remain immune to unconscious media direction.
This meeting, which was conducted by Dr. Ahmet AKALIN, Assistant Director of the ECO Cultural Institute, by emphasizing the synergy of regional experiences, provided a suitable platform for exchanging scientific views to achieve a local model of media literacy in ECO member countries.
