Shabyt festival has started in Astana
It is the sixteenth international festival Shabyt that the capital is hosting.

This year, the arts festival goes on in 6 nominations : » Classical music » ( wind and percussion instruments , accordion), «Fine Arts» (sculpture, decorative arts ), » Folk Music » (an ensemble of folk instruments ), » Pop Vocal » «Best literary work » ( prose) , «Choreography» (folk dance). Apart from creative contests, the Shabyt participants will be in workshops and master-classes with the home and foreign professionals in culture and art, sightseeing tour and gala concert.

In the "Fine Arts" nomination yesterday, 124 young artists from all regions of Kazakhstan presented more than 250 works at the ModernArtsMuseum in a variety of techniques: tapestry , batik, chii , tufted carpets, pottery, sculpture in wood, clay, metal, jewelry, embroidery, appliqué. The contestants' age is 16 to 30. These are qualified artists , students of art schools and colleges.

The museum director Nelly Shivrina says they are pleased to see the permanent participants of the festival, such as students of Almaty College of Decorative and Applied Art named after O. Tansykbaev, for one, who brought over the original still lives on felt and jewelry.

Valentina Skurlova- academic secretary of the Memorial Faberge Foundation in St. Petersburg delivered a lecture at the Museum for the contestants, and Aizhan Bekkulova- president of «Our Heritage» foundation- on Kazakhstan handicrafts and works on felt. The museum staffer Elena Chernova, and sculptor Murat Mansurov will hold master classes.

A variety of handicraft pieces are displayed: a set of tapestries and chiis, sculptures , women's clothes made of felt, Orenburg shawls , batik embroidered with beads, pictures in acrylic colors and knitting, with African motifs, various installations.The round-up of the festival is to be on November 8.
