An expert panel on the life and personality of Sheikh Abu Sa'id Abu al-Khair was held on Feb. 10, 2019 at the at the ECO Cultural Institute.
The meeting was attended by university professors and prominent artists from Iran and Turkmenistan; Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Mazaheri, the ECI President; Davood Oraz Shahedov, President of Makhtoom Qoli Language Institute and director of Manuscripts section of Turkmenistan Academy of Sciences; H.E. Turkmenistan Ambassador, Ahmet Gurbanov, diplomats from Afghanistan and Tajikistan, the deputies of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, the Iranian Academy of Arts, and Mr. Hashemi Golpayegani, the former ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran to Turkmenistan.
According to the ECI news, while appreciating the presence of all the participants, Dr. Mazaheri described Sheikh Abu Sa'id Abu al-Khair as a universal poet and Sufi mystic and added: "The special attention being paid to the position of Sheikh Abu Sa'id Abu al-Khair by the contemporary world scholars and philosophers defines a heavy responsibility for the cultural institutions of the two countries to better promote this great personality on the global level.
ECI president further announced that special programs are being developed by this international institution for the commemoration of the lofty position of Sheikh Abu Sa'id Abu al-Khair in Turkmenistan and Iran.
The next speakers of the event included Davood Oraz Shahedov, President of Makhtoom Qoli Language Institute who thanked the president of the ECO Cultural Institute for venerating the lofty position of Sheikh Abu Sa'id Abu al-Khair, and declared: "The legacy of the great poet for us is paying attention to the role of mysticism in facilitating social and cultural relations". He further pointed out to the unique impact the poet left on the great poet Makhtoom Qoli Feraqi and delivered a lecture on the similarities of the two mystic poets.
Referring to the unparalleled influence of Sheikh Abu Sa'id Abu al-Khair on Turkmenistan's prominent poet Mokhtam Gholagh Faraghi, he further noted the similarity of the poetry of the two mystics and mystic poets.
At the event, H.E. Turkmenistan Ambassador, Ahmet Gurbanov, also appreciated the attention being paid by the ECI President for the organization of the expert panel between the scholars of the two countries to prepare the ground for the organization of a worthy program for the commemoration of Sheikh Abu Sa'id Abu al-Khair and voiced his country's readiness for all-out cooperation in this regard.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Hashemi Golpayegani, the former Iranian Ambassador to Turkmenistan, also expressed gratitude for the special attention of Dr. Mazaheri, the ECI President, for promoting cultural commonalities existing among the ECO countries, particularly Iran and Turkmenistan, and expressed hope that during his tenure, the cultural relations between the ECO countries would be more strengthened.
It is worth mentioning other scholars present at the meeting deliberated on the different aspects of Sheikh Abu Sa'id Abu al-Khair's personality and its effect not only on the culture and literature but also other poets of the two countries including Makhtoom Qoli Feraqi.
