Held for the first time at the initiative of the ECO Cultural Institute following the signing of an MoU with the Institute for the Compilation and Publication of Imam Khomeini's works, 'Reformer of the East' Conference was held on January 17, 2019 in Imam Khomeini's shrine to commemorate of the 30th anniversary of Imam Khomeini's letter to Gorbachev.
At the ceremony, held with the presence of a number of the ECI President, as well as ambassadors and diplomats from other Islamic countries, Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Mazaheri, ECI President, said that Imam's letter to Gorbachev was one of the most important manifestations of public diplomacy which explicitly reflected the annihilation of the foundations of Marxism. "The 'Reformer of the East' Conference aims to provide fresh opportunity to expand public diplomacy and highlight the significance of friendship and brotherhood among the Islamic countries and the ECO member states", he further added.
Hojjat ul-Islam Sayyed Hassan Khomeini, the trusteeship of the Shrine of the founder of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, was another speaker of the event who expressed his appreciation for the special attention paid the ECO Cultural Institute to propose holding this conference.
The program concluded with the unveiling of the stamp of the 30th anniversary of the Imam Khomeini's letter to Gorbachev by Hojjat ul-Islam Sayyed Hassan Khomeini, Pakistan's Ambassador to Iran H.E. Ms. Rafat Massoud, Hojatoleslam, Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Mazaheri and other diplomats.
