Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan described the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway as a symbol of friendship between the three regional countries and a new opportunity to further develop international co-operation.
According ECO Cultural Institute quoting Fars News Agency, the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement: "Strategically, this railway is of great importance for the revival of the Great Silk Road, the development of trade among the Central Asian countries and the Caspian region, connecting north to the south and the east to the west".
Construction of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway commenced in 2009 and was inaugurated in 2014 during a formal ceremony participated by the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
