On the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the great Tajik poet, Kamal Khujandi, an international symposium will be held by Khujand State University on October 15-17, 2020.
According to ECO Cultural Institute quoting Khovar news agency, the program will begin with a wreath-laying ceremony at the base of the statue of Kamal Khujandi followed by paying tribute to the poet's symbolic grave. The participants will afterwards watch a performance at Kamal Khujandi State Musical and Comedy Theater.
Moreover, leading scientists and scholars from Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, France, Germany, Pakistan, India and Turkey are supposed to participate at the event through video-conference. Within the framework of the symposium, cultural programs and a poetry reading festival of Kamal's poems have also been planned.
Kamal Khujandi was born in Khujand, Tajikistan, but after his travel to Mecca, he chose to settle in Tabriz where he lived and was buried after death. He is considered as one of the great romantic poets of the 14th century and his divan contains about 8,000 couplets.
