Shiraz was recognized as the world city of handicrafts in February 2020 and on Sunday, April 6, 2021, the inauguration ceremony of the world city of handicrafts secretariat was held in Shiraz.
According to the ECO Cultural Institute, quoting IRNA, the Director General of Fars Province Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Department said on Sunday at the inauguration ceremony of the secretariat of the world city of handicrafts in Shiraz: “Provincial Tourism Chief Mosayeb Amiri said that several organizations played a role in the global recognition of Shiraz.”
A total of 14 Iranian cities and villages received global recognition, of which two, Abadeh, in terms of wood carving, and Shiraz, as the world city of handicrafts, are located in Fars Province, Amiri said.
There are 20,000 handicraft artists and 950 active workshops in Shiraz, Amiri added.
Shiraz was recognized as the world city of handicrafts by the World Crafts Council in January 2020.
On July 22, 2020, Shiraz was registered as the national city of handicrafts, which as a prerequisite for the globalization of Shiraz.
