Poetry reading event to pay tribute to Hafez
On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Hafez, the first diplomatic poetry night to pay tribute to this renowned poet, who truly promotes a message of friendship throughout the world, hosted by the ECO Cultural Institute, was held on Tuesday evening, October 12, 2021, in the presence of dozens of ambassadors, diplomats, cultural and artistic figures and authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to the ECO Cultural Institute, in the unprecedented ceremony, which was moderated by Afshin Ala, a prominent Iranian poet, Mr. Bakhti, President, ECO Cultural Institute welcomed all the guests and expressed hope that friendship dinners to pay tribute to the great figures such as Hafez will further spread peace and friendship among the ECO member countries.
According to the report, Dr. Haddad Adel, President, the Academy of Persian Language and Literature; Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Ambassador of Russia, Ambassador of Afghanistan, ECO Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador of Belarus, Ambassador of Turkmenistan, and the First Secretary of the Embassy of Pakistan in Tehran,  attended the event to pay tribute to Hafez and recited his poetry in English, Russian and Turkish.
Also, Director General, Center for Public Diplomacy and Director General of Multilateral and International Economic Cooperation, and Director General of the Persian Language Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran recited pieces of Hafez’s poetry and emphasized the expansion of friendship with a focus on cultural and artistic commonalities in the ECO region.
According to the same report, Ms. Mahtab Keramati, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in Iran, attended the Friendship Night and expressed her support for the spread of peace and friendship among ECO member countries. Also, Ms. Sogol Mashayekhi and Ms. Sepideh Moosavi, Hafez scholars, explained the place of friendship in Hafez's poems. 
Arif Jafari, an Afghan musician, also attended the Friendship Night with his band and performed pieces that were well received by the audience.
It is worth mentioning that the Friendship Night was covered by foreign journalists based in Tehran in cooperation with Foreign Press Department of Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
