UNESCO Declared 2021 Year of Yunus Emre
2021 will be celebrated as “Yunus Emre and the Year of Turkish” President Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a circular regarding the celebration of 2021 as the “Year of Yunus Emre and Turkish.”
According to the ECO Cultural Institute, Erdogan, in the circular in the Official Gazette, commemorating and celebrating the year 2021 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) due to the 700th anniversary of Yunus Emre, one of the cornerstones of Turkish language and civilization. 
Stating that Yunus Emre uses the concepts of love for human and nature, tolerance, brotherhood and peace in his poems in the purest Turkish and addressed to all humanity regardless of religion, language and race, Erdoğan said:
“Yunus has succeeded in becoming a poet far beyond his age, bringing people together around common values by contributing to world humanism with the principle of ‘looking at seventy-two nations with one eye’ and his philosophy built on universal human values.”
