This branch was headed by Academician Yevgeny Pavlovsky, who made great contributions to the reconstruction and development of science in Tajikistan. By the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR on October 9, 1950 and based on the decision of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Tajik SSR, the Council of Ministers of the Republic and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Tajikistan on April 14, 1951, the Academy of Sciences of the Tajik SSR was established.

Presidents of the Academy
The first president of the Tajik Academy of Sciences was Sadruddin Aini (1951–1954); an outstanding figure of science and culture and the founder of Tajik Soviet literature.

The Government of Tajikistan, on the proposal of the Presidium of the Academy, determines the number of full and associate members. The main task of the Academy members is to enrich science with new achievements. Full members are elected for life by the General Assembly of the Academy from among scientists who have made valuable scientific contributions. Associate members are also elected from among outstanding scientists. Only citizens of Tajikistan can become full or associate members of the Academy. Citizens who have made great contributions to the economy, culture, education, science and technology can become honorary members of the Academy. Outstanding foreign scientists who have contributed to the development of science and culture of Tajikistan or to the training of Tajik scientists can be elected as foreign members of the Academy.
